PRESS RELEASE

Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD)
Awards View Point Health Contract for
Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) Team in DeKalb and Fulton Counties

September 17, 2012

LAWRENCEVILLE – On September 4, 2012, the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities awarded View Point Health the contract to provide Assertive Community Treatment services to individuals in DeKalb and Fulton Counties. As the provider of ACT services for 55 individuals in Gwinnett, Rockdale, and Newton Counties, View Point Health is positioned to replicate a successful ACT Team model that assists individuals and their families with recovery and re-integration into the community.

The goal of the program is to help individuals with severe and persistent mental illness experience more meaningful, productive and satisfying lives by providing support so they can live and function as independently as possible. Community services are offered 24 hours, 7 days, and include interventions to help individuals avoid hospitalization. Services offered include crisis intervention, case management, medication management, and therapy. Through these supports, individuals can achieve fewer mental health symptoms, sustained sobriety, minimal hospitalizations, housing stability, and social integration in the community.

Dr. Davine Sparks, LCSW, will be the Regional Project Director for the ACT Team serving DeKalb and Fulton Counties.
